Should catfishes be banned?

I never understand why it's ok to allow this

Someone once told me that maybe catfishes need to catfish, to escape reality of their lives, struggles, and whatever else they go through.
If it can prevent them from self harm, and if they dont hurt anyone, i dont really care about banning them.

@SW-User i guess it depends on definition is a conman pretending to be a soldier who lost his wife to cancer and has a daughter with cancer and if you would just send him your life savings he could get released from the army to see her before she passes ? Is that a catfish if so its pretty harmfull hey on a side note did i ever tell ya why i got devorced ?

@iamonfire696 i guess depends on defanition i mean he ir she isnt tuna or in a can and lets be honest the info is questionable at best lol my point being he or she means no harm to anyone and arent portraying themself
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@Whyme her is pretending to be a can of tuna as a joke. Anyone that believes he is one is actually that stupid.

Completely different from pretending to be an 18 year old cam girl…..

@SW-User How I feel about it as well. There’s so many lonely people out there just wanting to fit in. Wanting to feel something other than the discardment that they’re feeling. And unfortunately one of the quickest and most efficient ways to be seen on the internet is to present yourself as someone others would want to see. It’s sad across the board. Sad for those who feel they have to manipulate others in such a way to feel a spark and sad for those who are so devoid of connection themselves that they can’t see the manipulation for what it is before they get too attached…something that should take a very long time to do but given the severe loneliness of people these days… Catfishing isn’t right by any means, but I do understand the core thinking of why it seems like the only way some very hurt people can be something to someone.

@PerfectionOfTheHeart I agree, totally catfishing is not something anyone should do.
I do wish they had found better ways to escape their reality, or better yet, face them and seek treatment if they cannot cope.

@SW-User A wish I have as well. The healing that could come from that alone. Also saving themselves and anyone they shared the fantasy with so much time, energy, and the inevitable heartbreak when the truth does reveal itself. But that kind of direction towards healing requires a level of self-reflection that many aren’t in a position to take on…something their inner demons will convince them of more than it actually being true. And it takes a ton of self-love to even want to embark on that journey of rebirth. Unfortunately something many just don’t feel they have a lot of. That’s why for me sadness is felt more than any other emotion concerning it. The act itself tells you a lot about what’s really going on underneath the surface.
