did you hear that Cleopatra was black

yep that is right, Netflix confirmed it as did the writers of the series. So it must be true.

Just ignore the lawsuit happing against Netflix by some Egyptians for trying to erase their history.
Surely it wouldnt be Hollywood trying to rewrite history to put black people at the center of everything instead of just making compelling shows on Black history that does not include slavery
Race swapping is just far easier

All I know is that many Egyptians have a darker skin tone than many people from Middle East . Maybe they were darker around the time Cleopatra lived which would make them black skin tone.

And here’s an Egyptian actor, he definitely has a dark skintone which some people consider black. [image deleted]

@SW-User oh god, I can't get over the blackness
SW-User
@SW-User what do you mean? The truth is there’s dark, white, blonde and medium tone Arabs in every country. We all have different skin tones.

Here’s my skin tone and I’m not considered white and I don’t consider myself white. I’m medium between dark and white.

@SW-User modern Egyptians are North African with *some* Arab heritage. Btw, north African doesn't mean black because it's a very diverse continent

Cleopatra was Greek so definitely not black lol

@SW-User girl I don’t know what she was or where from. I didn’t bother to study her background. The thing is Egypt has a very hot climate so the sun will make you a few shades darker. I can become dark when I’m exposed to the sun for long periods of time. Haha
@SW-User One of the things lacking in this whole Cleopatra discussion is a definition of "black." In the USA, something called the "one drop rule" was codified into law in a number of states. This law said that if a person had a single black ancestor that person was legally black.

By that definition, Cleopatra was certainly black.

Example of one drop rule
In 1911, Arkansas passed Act 320 (House Bill 79), also known as the “one-drop rule.” This law had two goals: it made interracial “cohabitation” a felony, and it defined as “Negro” anyone “who has…any negro blood whatever,” thus relegating to second-class citizenship anyone accused of having any African ancestry. Although the law had features unique to Arkansas, it largely reflected nationwide trends.
@SW-User well he certainly ain’t white and this picture actually makes him look lighter than he actually was. He’s deceased now. Rip

@ElwoodBlues I’m sure you are right. Cleopatra probably had african roots like many people of Levantine. I probably have African roots as well so that’s makes me black. I have siblings with very curly hair which is a physical trait of African decent. My hair is dry and wavy.
@SW-User Yeah, the one drop rule is absurd - it makes every human black, because we ALL came out of Africa like 70,000 years ago!

Equally absurd is not defining the crucial term being argued about!!
SW-User
@SW-User wtf
SW-User
@ElwoodBlues Exactly!

@SW-User she was Greek/Macedonian...Cleopatra's family weren't from the Levant, which Egypt isn't even in 😆
SW-User
@SW-User ok ok, you are right. I forgot which countries are but Egypt is considered part of the Middle East. Still she probably had African blood in her.
princess arsinoe
A computerized reconstruction of the skull of Princess Arsinöe reveals physical characteristics of a mix of white European, black African and ancient Egyptian.
According to Hilke Thür, this mixed heritage provides “a real sensation which leads to a new insight on Cleopatra’s family and the relationship of Cleopatra and Arsinöe”. Obviously, this raises the interesting question as to whether Cleopatra had African ancestry as well.

The story of the discovery of Princess Arsinöe’s tomb and the subsequent research linking the tomb to Cleopatra

There’s some speculation that she did have African ancestry as well. Princess Arsinoe was her sister. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@SW-User Egypt is in North Africa (note: that doesn't make them black, Africa is very diverse) and her family were mostly closely related. They came from Greece and Macedonia. Royal families are known for marrying their relatives and subsequently procreating with them, and in ancient Egypt it was more extreme. Her parents were siblings, their family had ruled Egypt for around 300 years but were originally from Macedonia. They hadn't mixed with any Africans lol. There may be *some* Persian heritage...similarly though Persians aren't African
