an experience

Growing up, I had this view that old age is equal to maturity. So, I gave older people respect that was more than what they deserved. I looked up to them. Unfortunately, life taught me that it wasn't that way when those very people crushed that belief. I was left thinking if respect should truly be earned.

So I learned to give respect but never to allow or accept any hint of disrespect, regardless of their age, without feeling guilty for disrespecting them, especially knowing they are older than me and if the situation calls for it.

I think most people deserve a certain level of respect... After that it has to be earned

@Convivial pretty much how I see it. I give respect and you'll have my respect until you show me you don't deserve it.
