Looking around and one notices that there are now empty spaces where once full cathedrals and churches were. One action that society did is to redirect the function of those spaces. Personally, I'm not against that and believe that twenty people at worship still holds to what Christianity was at the very beginning. It's indeed more than full buildings.
Even now there are good people who believe, and I admire their fight. Almost day in, day out they're at the disposal of others. Once a week they come to together to praise God and pray. As for society, well, some people out there are just dying to bury an instution like a public library too. Now that's wrong. What makes today's society and its billionaires worst than in the 19th Century is the overall indiverence to others.
People know this rich man who's on the television set and they want to become him. Never mind what awful character he has, they can only see the importance to what he projects. Power, might and money. Now that makes indeed a difference to the age of Carnergie and Nobel. One should rather voice the question where those are today.
All our public spaces should be treasured and defended from those who view them as a wasteful use of tax. There is nothing worse than a modern high street where only those who are actively consuming are welcome.
