Boom boxes could also record?

I thought they only did output, not input as well...

@sstronaut Boom boxes were amazing. They could record and play. And if you had a double decker you could make all the copies of tapes you wanted.

A man? At least three of 'em! The one in the middle seems have fitted an external microphone to his radio/cassette set.

I don't suppose the result was very "hi-fi..." By the look of them all, I reckon the performance was not exactly hi-fi either. They don't look very happy, do they?

That pass or whatever it is the foreground man is also wearing makes me wonder if he was one of the staff.

Several of them doing it !
@emmasfriend At Grateful Dead concerts, recording was allowed -- even encouraged! They would allocate seating sections to tapers; that way you knew everyone around you was going to stay quiet and let the recordings happen. Often they would mix a stereo pair off the soundboard and feed it to the tapers' section. Some people brought battery powered pre-amps to distribute the soundboard feed.

@ElwoodBlues Friend back home: "What was the band like?"

Concert goer: "The music was great but I couldn't see the band for the forest of microphone poles!"

Looks more like he is listening to the same closely since he couldn't make it to the front row. Thanks
