@emmasfriend At Grateful Dead concerts, recording was allowed -- even encouraged! They would allocate seating sections to tapers; that way you knew everyone around you was going to stay quiet and let the recordings happen. Often they would mix a stereo pair off the soundboard and feed it to the tapers' section. Some people brought battery powered pre-amps to distribute the soundboard feed.
