I picked up a hitchhiker once. It was in around 1987 and there was a young man in RAF uniform hitching along a fairly quiet country road when it was getting dark. The uniform gave me confidence and I had no reason to be concerned. I was able to drop him off at a convenient junction. For all sorts of reasons, the military don't go around in uniform off duty these days and I wouldn't stop to pick up anyone when I was driving on my own anymore.

		Yes, and yes.
I stopped hitchhiking when the last guy to pick me up in Brighton looked over at me as he was driving and said, "So...have you heard about the serial killer who has been picking up young girls who are hitch hiking?" My eyes must have gotten huge, because he quickly said he was just kidding. But it made me think...something I seldom did back in those days.

Picked up people a couple times. Both were in the middle of nowhere and obviously needed some help. One lady was in the middle of Nevada on a hot day and her car had broke down. The other time was a guy way out in the mountains on a dirt road. He had rolled his truck down an embankment into a ravine.

Used to hitch everywhere in the 1970s. Picked up a few hitchhikers later when I had a car but not often as I was rarely travelling alone then.
Now It's very rare to see a hitchhiker.

I have never, but I have a friend that would just up and leave. Hitchhiking wherever she wanted to go. I was always a little jealous of her free spirit.

I wanted to pick up someone one time.
I didn’t mind the idea of helping someone. But I was too much in a rush that day, so I declined
Also my passenger side was a mess

Sort of...I've picked up people who had a roadside issue...not exactly hitchhikers, but

I’m old enough to remember when that was a legit form of transportation around town. (As a kid)

In the early 90s, hitchhiking was the only realistic way I could get around certain areas of southern Mexico and Guatemala.
