This is why I hate “celebrity” deaths, people hailed heroes and talk about it being a real loss to so many people. It doesn’t even come close to a real loss for anyone outside of their family/friend group. Is it sad? Sure. But people go on watching that actor’s movies or listening to that singer’s music exactly as they did when they were alive. Try no longer having the people who cook your meals, give you a bath, read you bedtime stories. No longer having the people who make the world feel safe…that’s loss

@Onryo north america is enthralled by the media.
@Onryo Trust me, while I may occasionally post about celebrities whose work I enjoyed, whom I might miss, that doesn’t mean I’m not still devastated by the loss of my mother. It’s been two years and I feel it as acutely as the day she passed away. 😭

@bijouxbroussard Sorry for your loss. My parents have been gone a long time.
@jackson55 Sorry for your loss, too. I lost my husband and son a very long time ago, but I still feel their absence and things constantly remind me.

@bijouxbroussard that’s exactly my point, the loss doesn’t even compare. People’s job or celebrity status does not make them have more value as a person. Every single person on the planet is the most important person to someone and that loss is immeasurable. It’s been 16 years since I lost my parents and I still grieve every single day
@Onryo Honestly, I don’t know anyone personally who thinks celebrities have more value than their own loved ones. But isn’t it possible for you to feel bad about the death of an artist whose music, art or performances as an actor you enjoyed throughout your life ? It is for me, and I can assure you it takes nothing away from the love I feel for my family and friends. Nor does it take away the empathy I’m capable of feeling for non-celebrities.

It’s not all or nothing for me. 🥺
