@WandererTony The earth is less than 8,000 miles across and moving around the sun at 64,000 mph. It would have missed by a lot.

@Zaphod42 really not that simple. It would have been faster ot slower every year and not that particular year.
Also for each meteor hit, there are millions that missed. You skip one, you take another.
Like whether you would get less wet if you walked faster or slower in the rain.

@WandererTony Fair point. Over that long a time line, a few fractions of a second faster or slower would have done the trick 🤷♂

@Zaphod42 true. The possibilities are limitless. And the probability of human existence as we have today is so low thay it is almost a miracle.
