It could very easily be female or transgender or LBGT

That reminds me of this bit of dialogue from the 2000 film, O Brother, Where Art Thou.
Pete: "What's the devil look like?"
Everett: "Well, of course they're all a manner of lesser imps and demons, Pete, but the Great Satan hisself is red and scaly, with a bifurcated tail and he carries a hay fork.
Tommy: "Oh, no. No, sir. He's white. As white as you folks. With empty eyes and a big hollow voice. And he loves to travel around with a mean old hound."
The devil is anything that someone wants it to be. Many manifestations.
