I need emotional support rather than financial

My parents provide me financial support and I'm grateful for that but that has only kept me dependent on them.

I'm sure they have wanted to see me independent for a long time but I just haven't been able to become it. I want to become independent for my sake and theirs.

I just don't know how to communicate to them that I need more emotional support/encouragement than financial.

You need the emotional support of your parents in order to be independent? I'm not trying to be a dick but this is very unusual. What is it about being independent you need emotional support for? Are you saying that if you had the money to live on your own, you still would not be able to? Or are you saying you need motivation to get a job? I don't understand

@BRUUH I just don't really think my folks believe in me and my capabilities. These are my folks so their opinions about me matter especially if I want to maintain a healthy relationship with them.

I find it hard to get along or maintain a relationship with people who do not have confidence in me as I'm sure anyone would feel the same too.

I don't want their money. I can get that on my own whatever little I can manage. I pay for my own stuff.

However, if I am to move on to the next level of personal growth I think a positive and encouraging relationship with them would help wonders with my mental and emotional health.

But perhaps I need to find all the encouragement within myself.

@BRUUH I graduated with a bachelor's degree but i don't know why instead of encouraging me to purse something related to my degree they have told me multiple times to get a manual labor job.

@BRUUH Instead of seeing me as an educated professional they see me as a manual laborer after years of telling me to study so that I won't have "break my back" like my father. No offense to manual laborers it's honest work.

@BRUUH What I was going through a rough times in school instead of encouraging me by saying don't give up we believe in you they would say why don't you just quit if you're not smart enough and get a day labor job like your dad. That is confusing as hell after growing up they said study and go to college.
