Are you a political extremist?

BlueVeins · 22-25
Yes, but I like to think I'm more pragmatic and flexible about it than most.
Renaci · 36-40
That is all that can now exist. There are no moderates because most issues of each party can not be compromised on.

LGBT rights? You are either for or against. You can't give partial human rights.

Abortion. You are either for or against. There are no half abortions

BLM? You can't be a half supporter of a race of people.

Immigration? You are either a xenophobe or you are not.

Gun rights? Either guns have no restrictions at all or have common sense gun laws.

Education? Either all knowledge is worth knowing or alternative facts are true.

These dichotomies are diametrically opposed to each other. Which is why there are only two parties in the US.

But going even deeper, this is a brain issue as well. With conservativism being linked to an enlarged overactive amygdala which encodes for fear and negative emotions.

And liberals having increased activity in the anterior cingulate cortex which responds positively to diversity, curiousity and novel experiences.

But also the fight between education vs religion is also embedded in the brain because they fight for the same resources.

Religion tells the brain to ignore all sensory perception and trust only in non evidence based dogma.

Education is literally the opposite and requires observation and hypothesis formulation via the senses.

The more religious you are the less you will trust facts, evidence and reality. As these are the opposite of blind faith.

On the other hand the more education you have the less religious tricks like information, emotional and thought control will affect you. As education gives you critical analysis tools and the ability to properly source reliable information.

And to come full circle the two political parties in the US align with either the religious right or the more secular/humanist left and thus literally create opposition within the very brain of the individual.

This is why extremes exist. Because there can be no compromise when two opposing ideologies are fighting for the same brain areas or have opposites effects in the brain.

@Renaci I'm one of those moderates who doesn't exist. I do have definite opinions; I just don't go to extremes with them and want to destroy everyone who doesn't think as I do, unlike my family.
@SW-User On some issues it’s possible to be a moderate, but on others, alas, it is not.

@bijouxbroussard Oh, I agree. You missed the part where I said I have definite opinions -- and that's on pretty much ALL subjects. The only time I don't have an opinion is when I need to do further research on something.

I'm an armed Marxist.

No, I 'm a moderate -- which meant that my right wing parents thought I was a Communist. 😑
This place can be a magnet for them.
