@Spoiledbrat

my condolences
@pdockal I said that because that I'm aware of California had nothing to do with slavery. Were we even settled here yet? I don't remember but it doesn't seem like it. There was a group of states in the middle eastern area that were pro slavery. I think the white people pretty much relied on them to earn a living. Not that I think it justifies it. It doesn't. Anyway they were pretyy devastated financially when it was outlawed. I think through the ages people think differently because they become influenced by others.

WTF does any of that rant have to do with you comment ?
@pdockal I have no idea. Maybe I was referring to a different thread or thought I was on a different thread. But I can tell you what I was thinking and that is that there were likely no slaves in California so why is California thinking about paying black people off for being descendants of slavery. And didn't some people come here willingly to have a better life. I forgot what that's called now. I'm drawing a total blank. California is broke anyway.
Come here referring to the US ....from Africa....

@Spoiledbrat we are all becoming aware of history that has been repressed for over a century. True, organized slavery was not a California thing, but using Chinese immigrants was not far from it. We all have some guilt.

As to reparations, we do recognize that some minority groups were and continue to be suppressed educationally, and income wise. Affirmative action was one approach to provide relief. There are serious attempts being made to reverse be those activities. I don't see reparations working, but let us look at the issues.
@pdockal Indentured servant or something like that. Anyway aren't there black colleges and other programs to help black people move up?
@Spoiledbrat Black people do and can move up.
I'm starting to feel suppressed simply for being white. There are all kinds of programs to help people who are in poverty. One can go to college on the pell grant. It's been limited now but it's there. But I get the systematic thing. The system favored white people. It was a white country and or the people in power were white. Even woman were held back and I'm a woman but I don't think about it or feel anyone owes me anything. The past is the past. But I guess black people had it worse. Some Americans are still racist. @samueltyler2

@Spoiledbrat Women are suppressed and imho superior to men in 21st century civilization. I could give you a dozen reasons, but it's what I believe. As far as women or blacks, all you have to do is look around the board room to see most are still white males. BUT...the reasons many white people object to the term "white privilege" is that we wonder where our privilege is. We look at the Donald Trumps and Mark Cubans and can't relate to them any more than black people can. So it's hard for us to see that black people are still way behind us regarding opportunities. That's my opinion.
