Why do some people go out with no cash despite knowing they'd end up having to borrow cash anyway?

I notice this behavior in the younger generation.

I consider this bad habit because they always end up troubling others. Even worse, they don't have the responsible mind to pay back right away without being reminded/urged.

I hate to think they're opportunists. But to be honest, I'm getting tired of some people acting like this. It's a shitty move.

In my country it's now easier, faster and common to pay through your mobile using UPI system of payment, so that excuse does not work anymore here. I myself many times don't carry cash when going outside, my phone is enough for any sort of payment.

Everyone accepts it, and you can make payment digitally 20 times a day from INR 1 to the limit of INR 1,00,000 per day, and that too without any charges or deduction. And it is executed in real time (instantly). You can use it to buy anything & anywhere, be it street vendor, bus ticket, cab, shop or showroom purchases, pay electricity/gas bills, or transfer to any individual, even beggars accept payments from it. Now it is being used in rural areas also.

@ABCDEF7 In here, we can use it for some but not for all.

So it still doesn't make a wise choice to leave with no cash especially if you're hanging out with someone.

@Casheyane Although here also it's not 100% cashless transactions taking place, but India is moving towards cashless/digital economy*. It's safer here to hangout with someone without carrying cash, we do it often here without problems.

My father still uses cash also (along with UPI), sometimes he gives me cash to purchase something, I keeps the money for emergency purpose and do his purchases by using UPI on my mobile. I don't remember, when last time I used my ATM Card to withdraw cash, I have even forget my ATM PIN.
