One thing that is terrible is if at the end of a meal a group of people decides to split the whole bill

That’s right, each pays for their own. Otherwise you might have ordered the most expensive foods and then asked for a doggy bag because you couldn’t finish it all. And let the others cover part of your meal for you.

And the "nice" people sitting in the corner that kept talking to us left and told the staff we were taking care of their bill too! 🧾👀

Yeah... I'm out at that point.

Don't order anything that you don't have the means to pay for out of your own pocket.

Ask for a separate check at the time you order.
I learned this the hard way.

Used to take turns in paying with a couple we went out with,, on our turn to pay they had most expensive with drinks on their turn cheapest and water !! On one meal with children and their turn to pay their 2 kids shared a kids meal !! Yep stopped going

Yep, and you’ve just had mineral water and the main course no starter or coffee and the rest have cleaned out the restaurant. Yep, been there!

I just let the men pay for it

If I invited someone, I will pay for that meal with mine. I do not order really expensive so am not paying for everyone else to live it up. lol
