People can be shitty. If you don't truley care about the other person and are just looking to get something out of it for youself, I worry that you maybe adding yourself to that list though.

Well I guess I am because everyday I see how shitty and selfish people are and I'm done being nice to people who treat me like shit. We live in such a judgemental society where everyone acts like their shit don't stink and I'm done with being "nice"

@Woofwoof15 certainly not trying to be combatative here. But, This may be the same view point that led people you have come into contact with to act in selfish ways. By taking the same approach it doesn't seem that this improves things, but in the end shows that you align with thier decisions.
