Conservatives are the ones who don’t want U.S. history taught about (not even Martin Luther King, Jr’s life & work), and they deny the Holocaust, because they worry that past oppression makes them look bad. @Mathers British, eh ? That explains it, then. In the U.S. conservatives have been the traditionalists, pro-slavery, pro-Jim Crow, pro-racial segregation. The progressives have supported [b]progress[/b], e.g., the abolition of slavery; they’ve been at the forefront of the Civil Rights movement. And this has been so even when there were Northern [b]Republican[/b] progressives and Southern Democratic conservatives ("Dixiecrats").
