Would you give up your belongings if you got robbed at gunpoint or something?

I think most logical people would. Because it's a scary moment & you just gotta do it. But I feel like there's a lot of people, particularly a lot of men I've known personally who feel like they wouldn't give their things up, or they'd fight back or handle it in some way.

I feel like that's due to pride honestly. Especially because you work hard for your things & you don't wanna let anyone take that from you. I get it. It's like, "over my dead body". But the sad thing is, many people WILL kill you for that necklace you got on. Your watch that could easily be replaced, or even your lil phone that you'll buy another of 🤷 it happens all the time. It's truly sad that people will go that far & they do.

Honestly the younger me probably would've said "f*ck you" if somebody tried to rob me but due everything I know now.. I would hand it all over. I'd literally take my chain off & hand it to 'em. Tell them they could go ahead & pat me down because I don't wanna reach anywhere suddenly 🙌

Because nah screw all that. My life is worth more to me than some jewelry, some cash in my pocket, or some watch I got on. I wouldn't be all pleading & shit but I'd be like "damn bro here, take whatever dawg I'm just tryna get back to sleep tonight in peace ✌️"

Yes I've been mugged before, the until instinct was to fight back but it was three against one I realized I couldn't win that one and let me stuff go
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@SW-User aw that sucks. I'm glad it didn't end badly but yeah that shit would be scary asf. The world is pretty fucked up we just never know with people
SW-User
@SW-User Wise choice, even though, that choice hurts you more.

Not only would I, I have. Many years ago I was walking home late with my then girlfriend - it was after 1 in the morning and I'd just walked to where she worked to walk her home. The streets were dark, quiet and out of nowhere a guy walked up to us, pulled out a bowie style knife, pressed it against my chest and mugged us.

My initial reaction was shock, then I realized this MF was nuts. I gave him my wallet and had my girlfriend give him her purse. The only bravado I displayed was to reach over to my girlfriend and push her behind me.Fortunately that was it, he took our stuff and took off running. I instinctively knew what we ahd wasn't worth this wacko knifing me and/or my girlfriend.

@Ontheroad damn that's wild but yeah I feel you. You never know what people are about to do. At least you kept yourselves alright though 🙏

I agree with you, as a younger man, particularly if I had been drinking I may have gotten belligerent and bullet proof but not now.

I did have an incident with a homeless man who was getting very upset and aggressive right after I had just given him a $5 bill and he was demanding more. He realized quickly he had better go away.
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@gdon39 lol damn for being a homeless person he seemed to feel pretty entitled 😂
gdon39 · 46-50, M
@ChiefJustWalks chief it’s really pretty hard for me to engage people who have no interest in reality.

I hope compassion and civility become the norm sometime or at least somewhere in my life
I think i tend to avoid being robbed by being aware of my surroundings and by not attracting thieves by not having anything they want in their eyesight.. once when i was a kid tho this big burly woman stole stuff from me right in front of my eyes.. just grabbed some stuff and put it in her purse and i just stared in shock and said nothing
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@SStarfish how dare she 😤 draw a picture of her that way you never forget her face then when you see her again someday, yell at her. She'll be old & can't do anything anyway
She was just a big burly white woman .. the kind that looked like she could pick up a motorcycle 😳 tall and thick and mean.. that was the 90’s for all i know she’s not even alive or she’s stuck in a nursing home somewhere *sigh* @ChiefJustWalks

Yes, because those belongings are just material often, and as long as I have a home, people who care for me, I am not going to let myself lose those them trying to protect my pride.

But that takes on a lot of different meanings for many, I can afford somethings taken. My home likely won't be at stake, not sure how I would respond, but I would hope I see life has a chance of being with me for not acting in rage.
I worked for a grocery store and one of our locations got robbed. The store manager was in the office and the criminal vaulted over the low wall with a handgun.

I asked, "What did you DO?"

He said, "I held up a fistful of cash and asked, 'Would you like that in a bag, Sir?"
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@Mamapolo2016 that's actually kinda funny 😅 my grandma once managed a store that got robbed & they tied her up in her office while they took everything. They told one dude to kill her at the end but he just walked in & shot the wall then walked out. Shits crazy but it happens over the littlest things
sarabi · F
Yes, I'd give it up. That's better than wanting to rob from my body. If it's the latter one, I'd fight until I die. But enough about grim stuff, here are some 🌟🦄🐙

I don’t walk around with anything expensive on except my rings and they’re insured so I’d happily give them up
HikingMan · 51-55, M
I'd fight.
If they have knives or guns I'd probably get shot or stabbed.
I'd still fuck someone up....
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@HikingMan I'd just shoot them after lol unless they robbed my gun too 😭😂
would give up possessions but would fight till the death before getting in a car with them
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@saragoodtimes oh of course 👌 that's when you may even murder them if necessary
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
I'd give my stuff.

I have a mom friend who had taken a moment to herself chosing to a fast food restaurant. She decided to eat in the parking lot before going home to her kids.

Instead she was pulled out of her car at gunpoint told to lie on the ground which she complied. They shot her in the back and carjacked her consequently paralyzing her from the waist down.

I dunno, I might chance it and drive off from a carjacking attempt.
Not if they tried to steal my Batmobile
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@Ghostinthemachine I'd give my life for a burrito rn

I am not normal. I might do something extremely stupid because I don't like being threatened. And I might just give things and find them later. It depends on my mood that day.
Miram · 31-35, F
@Miram

I have never been mugged like that

My sister got her phone stolen in Canada and after reporting, I tracked it and found the guy who stole it. Got it from his family, then he followed me and started threatening me with a knife, I used my umbrella to keep him at a distance

He started crashing cars widows because I didn't care about his knife. He thought my car is one of them. That made the residents call the police and he was arrested right after.

I have gotten in many confrontations over the years. Ones that involve the other side having a gun didnt happen since the war.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Yeah like one of the basic survival skills in life is let the mugger win don't be a hero you can get past losing your stuff.
DCarey · 46-50, M
No. I don't fear death. I would certainly try to do serious damage to the robber.
No question, I’d hand it over. No possession is more valuable than one’s life.
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@bijouxbroussard exactly. & I do love the things I own.. but I've lost everything over & over in my life. One thing I've learned is every material thing is replaceable. Life ain't

@CountScrofula exactly. I wouldn't be concerned with losing anything except my life 👌
Boleuskas · M
Had similar situations never backed up
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
Yeah. I don't think I have any belongings worth my life. And if they kill me they get my stuff anyways, so what did it really get me?
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@ViciDraco yeah pretty much 🤷 like it sucks but shit you can't really trip about it
DDonde · 31-35, M
I guess I would.

I had a gun in my side and a guy struggling to pull off my wedding ring

I was like, "mate, let me do it."
SW-User
@ChiefJustWalks yes. Afterwards some twerp said, "I would never have let them take my wedding ring, and it really annoyed me. I was like - then you'd be dead

Not really worth dying over. My ring cost $36 on mega special in the 90s lol
ChiefJustWalks · 26-30
@SW-User damn that's an annoying to say. Yeah some people gotta act like they would refuse but honestly I just hope for their sake that they're never in that situation because then they might die 🤷
I'm with ya though. Wedding ring is important yeah but not worth dying over
SW-User
@ChiefJustWalks thank you 🤗
