will a cashless society ever come about in this lifetime

i would hate to see a cashless society, as you always need to have physical money for other things...i would be against everything completely turning electronic and cashless....but will it happen any time soon?

I have a feeling this is why everybody trades in bottle caps in the Fallout video game series. Paper money might go away but people will find some other placemark for local teansactions.
