So many things, but the one that sticks in my mind was when our house burned to the ground on my 7th birthday. We lost everything, but we were unhurt. The next day, some casual friends, including a girl in my second grade class, brought us some things. For me: a football, a Slinky, some socks, and jeans. I see the girl, now old like me, at our class reunions and still thank her for their kindness.

@lumberjackslam Not too different. I know that people were very generous with my daughter's family after their house was flooded in a hurricane. We had two refugee families staying with us after the storm, and people brought toys for the kids and essentials for the adults. People still respond in emergencies around here and most places, I believe.
