Neither and I was about to be homeless at 19 in a very well off area.
Graduated at 19 and went into the military. Which unfortunately was the worst decision since their "verbal" guarantee is worthless.
Must note there was no such thing as a student loan in that very well off area. The well off didn't need it then.

Option 2, but a trade school in or near a home town even better, quicker to finish and less expenses.

I was in that situation, got really good grades, but I didn't go to uni. I got a job and rented.

Wouldn't the estimated extra $$$ with a degree from a selective university be eaten up by the extra cost of attending that university.
If a prestigious school cost $25K more a year, that's $100,000 more for 4 years. Not considering the taxes and interest if the $$ was borrowed, with a salary of $10,000 more a year, it would take 10+ years to make up for the additional tuition cost.

Take the scholarship, because it would include room and board .
