Back then when my bf used to date his ex, he didn't like doing video call

Even he showed me chat history with his ex, his ex used to beg to do video call but he didn't want to. He told her "I'm not the type of guy who likes video call. I dislike it. My only request is for us to not video call everyday. We can do it every other day or once or twice a week"

But when he's with me, just one sec after I tell him "I'm home" he'd vc me right away and tell me how much he missed me.

What does that mean?
