The Dreams of the Past Are Real Now...
I remember as a child, my parents took my sister and I to DisneyWorld the first year that it opened. In the World of the Future area they had these telephones with a monitor. They were talking about how in the future people would be communicating with each other with not only sound, but sight over the telephone lines. I remember how people were saying that this wouldn't happen until the world looked like the Jetson's.
Well, we don't have flying cars for everyday use, we all don't have robots in our homes, and we still haven't figured out what Cogs are, but with webcams we can now talk and see anyone in the world in a way that we would only dream of in the past. Even in the early episodes of Star Trek they didn't have this kind of ability (if memory serves me right.)
But I also wonder, will humans become exstint when Holodecks become an everyday thing? Think about it, you could create your dream soulmate that does everything perfectly without having to deal with the bad stuff that you have to go through now. They will know what you like and desire in so many ways without even having to ask.
I only wish that I could use it here.
