Is Twitter a haven for Nazi's and Child Abuse Material or a platform of free speech?

It's both. Unmoderated social media platforms will inevitably turn into right wing cesspools, full of Nazis, jihadis, and child molesters. But I repeat myself.

I had a professor at a British university once on twitter posting academic woke nonsense and after I corrected him factually he started to send abusive nonsense back from a second account. Somehow he blocked me from his first one too though. Twitter is the home of cowards

@littlepuppywantanewlife Elon didn't want to be silenced. Everyone must listen to his childish ramblings. Freedom of speech? Subjective, I guess.

@littlepuppywantanewlife Did they? Wow! Well, I hope that some of his collegues and students noticed his nuisance too

@val70 @RageAgainstTheMachine He never thought about those people who get harrassed on social media. That's why I don't use Twitter or X, not using fb since couple of years and no Instagram.

Generally speaking, I think of Twitter as a place for twits and have never had an account.

@bijouxbroussard It's bad enough on FB, and really, other than here, I'm over the whole social website/messaging/hashtag thing.
It's really a shame. The internet could and should have brought us together, but it's done more to tear us apart than anything. People 😒

@Ontheroad it wasn't just for twits, it was actually useful

@BlueGreenGrey It may have been, but may have been is a long way from what is.

Fully free speech on Twitter lasted only a handful of days. Musk said "Comedy is legal" but ...

f
Musk: comedy is legal impersonation will be suspended

Even clearly marked parody gets suspended

It’s a haven for right wing anti-vaxx MAGA fucks.
NathanielS · 31-35, M
Twitter/X is just a place where genuine communication goes to die. I resent the extent to which it was, and still is, "essential".
No website, Twitter included, is a "platform of free speech". It will always seem too restrictive to someone.

That's why I never use Twitter anymore. I quitted it long time ago. And now it's very different.

RageAgainstTheMachine · 36-40, M
@erika88 No, I meant Haven. Of course you do not know basic words.
LeopoldBloom · M
@erika88 X is a stupid name. I'm going to keep calling it Twitter. I even changed the icon into a shortcut so it looks like the old Twitter one.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
I believe musk was taking out the trash
Greyjedi · M
The first part of that statement is correct.
Says who
X is a haven of free speech only for right wingers who do not criticize Elon Musk
Twitter no longer exists, literally and metaphorically; Bluesky is the spiritual successor to Twitter
In time, once Bluesky is out of private beta, I hope "Environmental Twitter" and "Science Twitter" (and academic Twitter in general) migrate to Bluesky and restore some normalcy
