The CCP is legally allowed to request data from companies based in China, and those companies are legally obligated to comply. Far be it from me to assert that they're definitely spying on people, but there's no doubt that they're capable of it, which should attract suspicion given their reputation.

It might be more like they just pass along the data to the Chinese government instead of just selling it like Facebook does. But I don't actually know.
