I just don't understand how it works when about half of my friends are blocked from me and a lot of people my age can't talk to me but a lot of people not my age can

@Aprilmay It's probably because of the Reputation system. Please don't change your age the protection is there for your benefit.

Actually it depends on the adult ratings of people, not the reputation system. These filters started out very strict to ensure maximum protection, but may be loosened up over time as they are tweaked and improved.
