Why does buying VIP require you to have mobile number?

That makes no sense to me. Why can't people just have privacy and not be tracked like some dog with microchip implant!

PayPal asks for a phone number as part of their security and fraud prevention checks. Unfortunately, this field can’t be disabled or controlled by us - it’s handled entirely by PayPal. The phone number is only used by PayPal if there’s an issue with the payment or delivery, and it’s never shared or used for marketing.

SW doesn't get your phone number, nor the credit card details.
@Nuno But I don't have a PayPal account

@FairyDuster That's fine - there is a "Debit or Credit Card" option, which is what I referred to. It goes through PayPal, but without having to create an account.

I'll never provide any personal info to the PayPal mafia. They already have too much data, not the least to Musk and his DOGE efforts. I'm disappointed in you choice of collaboration on this matter.

@SUPERVlXEN We really can't do much, honestly. It's either *us* (SW) asking for all those details, and you could say you would never trust sending us private data, or we use a *reputable* service (PayPal in this case), who has to ask for those details. And as far as we know, Elon Musk has no current stake or role in PayPal.

To be able to make the payment, you're already providing credit/debit details, your real name and address (for the bank to verify). Providing a phone number doesn't really add any extra privacy risk, considering the rest that you're already giving.
@Nuno What about using them prepaid gift card Visa and MasterCard's They don't use any ID to buy them, and I used them all time online shopping. Even Amazon and eBay take them, But SW won't. I never had to give up any phone number before.

@FairyDuster I understand. That's a decent feedback. I believe PayPal supports prepaid cards (?). But I understand that once you're using a prepaid card, theoretically you wouldn't need/want to put a phone number too. We definitely don't want to implement our own form, where the user's real data (name & card details) pass through our servers; and that's why we use a reputable service like PayPal. I'll see what we can do. We'd like to support other methods, such as Google Pay and Apple Pay - which would simply require an approval from your smartphone.
How about we send you a money order? 🤣 I know it sounds funny, but i am also kinda serious to about going back to a snail mail mail-in subscription. I mean that's really private right there

@FairyDuster paypal absolutely takes prepaid cards and no you dont have to put your personal info unless it's for a service or good you need to be age or identity verified for.

There are issues with using a non-reusable prepaid gift card with PayPal. Reusable prepaid gift cards generally have to be linked to a bank account. And for those of us who do not wish to have PayPal having our bank account details, that's a non-starter.

Also, some non-reusable prepaid gift cards won't work for online payments if the merchant is outside of the United States.

It's all this U.S. government nonsense "worrying" about $25 credit card transactions to prevent so-called money laundering schemes by terrorist groups. As if terrorist groups are funding their multi-million dollar plans for worldwide terror with gift cards purchased at 7-Eleven.

Meanwhile, dark money for political campaigns goes unregulated and don't even get me started on cryto-currencies.
