Most such instruments now darken automatically after several minutes without use, so I am surprised yours don't.
You could do what I do of course.... [i]switch the thing off[/i]!
During the day I put the computer to "sleep" if I intend returning to it at intervals; but turn both it and my portable 'phone completely off at night. Why waste electricity by leaving things on needlessly?
I leave the router on though, as advised by the service supplier. I am not convinced that is really necessary, but I doubt it runs at more than a few mW.
