This is a popular suggestion and certainly will be considered in a later stage. But as private messaging with instant notifications about new messages is already functional, this would be a fairly small improvement compared to features like photo albums, account deletion and a mobile app. Therefore it is not a top priority at the moment.

I would like to point out that it's probably driving users away from your site. I'm not complaining, but I know a lot of people got to kik or Skype when it comes to Skype because of the delay.
Again, I'm not complaining, just pointing out (as a user) that it looses users.
