You do have to accept them for them to be your friend. If you don't they're just followers.

Why would you post on a site like this if you didn't want people to be able to read your stuff? They don't gain any special abilities by following you. If someone you don't care for follows you, just block them.

I would like to create my own groups. I have such groups that no one else has created.

You can block then unblock a follower. That will take them out of being a follower without a permanent block

That's an interesting point, though you can choose not to accept them - as Sooper pointed out below, they remain in the followers category.

I don't even see the point of following (having a one-way "friend request"), as there is no way that I am aware of to see in one place what the people you are following are doing, and it's a pain in the ass to go and check each person's "replies". So far I've just been randomly running into "friends" and people that interest me on topics that interest both of us.
