I wouldn't like that option. You can usually tell if someone is active, anyway, by looking at their replies to questions and the stories they post. If they don't answer questions or post stories, it is very possible that they like their privacy and would prefer not to have people to know they are here or when they were last here. I think it is good to have some privacy here, so you can interact when you feel like it and lurk when you feel like it.

I would turn that feature off if it was option. Nobody needs to know what I'm doing. Defeats the purpose of the green light and the option of turning that off.

Then why give us an option to hide our online status if they give us the ability to see when a person has last been online?

Suggestion: Add a setting to hide this information if it is made available.
