"My Warning is unfair! Admins suck!" 🤔🙄

We see several scenarios where...

1) A user intentionally breaks our Terms of Service, causing significant trouble like posting inappropriate contents or offending everyone

2) Admins become aware (through Reports to us), remove the inappropriate contents, and put Warning + Restrictions on the user account

3) The user creates a public post playing the victim and trying to turn other users against the admins

4) And in some cases, the user also contacts us, pretending they don't understand why they've been warned/penalized

This is something we keep seeing happening often, and we wonder what is the goal when someone does this...

There are two ways the user can handle this:

1) Admit the mistake and quit doing the same in the future (and optionally contact the admins to apologize and likely we'll listen to them and reduce/remove the penalty in some cases)

2) Perpetuate the problem, pretend to be the victim and complain about the admins

Please be sure that when you go with option (2), all you're doing is make the admins SURE that their Action/Decision was deserved, and we won't be accepting any apology/appeal. And very likely, we won't "forgive" any future offenses/conflicts, as your account (and any alternative accounts you might create) will be flagged.

As most of you know already, we try to give users as much Freedom as possible, and many mild/once-off offenses are "ignored"/forgiven by us, depending on the impact caused, by us simply sending a Notification to the user, or by keeping the report logged for future reference when dealing with that user again.

However, if someone receives a Warning on their profile, and account Restrictions for it (and in most cases, associated Notifications with details about what those exact offenses were), most likely it was NOT an "unfair" and "automated" action by the system -- with most certainty, it was after days/weeks/months of Reports accumulated by many different users and a member of the staff analyzed and decided that these actions were necessary.

Personally....I dont envy you your job 😏

I mean ...youre damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't.

And as much as I've bitched about my personal preferences, I also understand:

[big]we don't OWN this site.

We get to use it for free,

And ...at least we HAVE an admin presence here. [/big]

In fact....I sometimes wonder what will happen when you guys hand over the mantle of running this place.
Will the new admins have the same dedication as the ones who created it?

And as much as I hate the trolls and assholes, at least you've never had a 'knee jerk' reaction, and closed up our freedoms to express ourselves as a whole, because of them.

@OogieBoogie true . But I would just ask that the rules are enforced equally for everyone.

@TexChik Appears to be double standards, and some users are protected
@TexChik I reckon they try to do just that .

But I don't imagine its easy .

I mean, there was tje case of that user a year or so ago, who wrote a personal post about their experience with being molested as a child ...
...other users misunderstood, and flagged it as pedophillic....and then made posts about how revolting his post was, gang flagged him ...and he left , for a VERY long time.

But how was admin supposed to know the background of all of this ....when all they got was multiple complaints from one side if it ?

I think its very hard to accurately play judge here, when information coming in could be biased, misinformed, or even coerced.
TexChik · F
@OogieBoogie not in my recent experience
@TexChik ahh...ok.

As I said somewhere else ...it isn't a perfect system.

...but it's better than none.
TexChik · F
@OogieBoogie It didnt used to be that way 🤷‍♀️
@TexChik Bigger user load means bigger complaint load.

And more chance of things to go wrong .🤷‍♀️
TexChik · F
@OogieBoogie When users are allowed to name other users, say nasty things about them and others pile on something is wrong. That is supposed to be a violation of the TOS. In spite of dozens of reports many of those "slam posts" still remain up after several months. According to the TOS I cant do that to another user. A few users have just recently left because this site now allows bullying by its select few. Its disgusting that is happens, even more disgusting when its condoned. Its not about the complaint load.
@TexChik it is disgusting that it happens.

I don't know how they get away with it ....maybe because others of the same opinion latch on, gang up.

People seem to love to do it here.

I mean....people are still making fun of Flappy, and of Mona in others posts.

Its very sad when someone has to be that specifically cruel to feel good .
TexChik · F
@OogieBoogie without any enforcement from the admin, its only going to get worse. It seems they want their membership numbers up rather than having happy members.
@TexChik I cant deny that I haven't thought the same thing.

But then ....this is probably their income - and numbers are all that speaks in business terms.

I think that having a good site , with good users would ensure the longevity of it ....maybe even create an iconic site .

But....its not ours to run.
Its not our income.
Its not our choice .

But my ethics grate against it to.

My only compensation is ....people prove themselves in the long run.

If someone wants to be an ass....let them, its their choice 🤷‍♀️

@OogieBoogie my rub is why have any rules if you cant/wont enforce them? Some of the people doing the offending have even written in their posts they had nothing to worry about when others told them they had better watch out or get suspended.
@TexChik i imagine these would be people who have multiple accounts...made with multiple addresses, or have one of those VPN changer thingies.

Some just.. don't care.

To them its nothing if one account is closed down ...they have 5 more sitting waiting, ready to go 🤷‍♀️
TexChik · F
@OogieBoogie true, but most of the worst ones are long time members
