Is this weird or normal?

I just got two messages minutes apart from Indians calling me 'dear'. One was a female, the other male. It strikes me as being strange to call someone you don't know dear, but maybe it's normal in other parts of the world. 🤔

@Souls My grandmother sometimes calls me dear, but that's it. Not other older people. Maybe everyone I've met shares a non-dear bubble.
