@HootyTheNightOwl its a simple question though, like out of nowhere asking me how am i and i answer i'm good how are you and they answer they are good and i'm like why did you message me?

@popmol No, most people like small talk - just like, if they ask "How are you?", they don't really want to hear about your day or that thing that's really irritating you.
Given that we are reliant on words here and lack facial expressions and intonation, your "Why did you message me" could be interpreted as "You are annoying me, go away" rather than your curiosity wanting to know why they reached out to you.

well its partially annoyed as i don't know why they messaged me and i want to know so i'm always annoyed when i ask it :p
but if they take such offence from such a simple question then its not worth the conversation.
also in this case i didn't like their picture so it better anyway.

You might be scarring them off with your direct question that they don’t know how to answer. Not being socially capable, on their part, is really hard.
I get much older men doing something similar. Because I don’t midst my age they try to figure out how old I am by my responses. I get ignored when I put on my inner grandma personality. If I play clueless they want to chat.

@popmol inner grandma comes out when im trying to make a point, so not too often.
I’m doing better in some ways. I miss not being part of the store but I’m glad I’m not. My son is finally seeing it for what it is and not as a fantasy.
There is/was a massive fire in the area so im holding out in my house trying to stay out of the smoke.

When older men and women reach several decades, we like a clue as to how your age falls into that span so we can better know how much our lives overlap through our shared awarenesses. For example, without knowing that, I don't drop the names Johnny Carson or Judy Holliday right off the bat lest I get a "Who?" response.
