Experience Project Blues

This post has received a Note or Correction by the SimilarWorlds staff.
Staff Note:
We understand, and can agree with your sentiment.

Experience Project displayed only (or mostly) content from Groups / Interests the user joined, in its main feed, which caused it to be a more relevant and useful community, for finding others with similar interests and experiences.

It is our wish to provide such an experience on SimilarWorlds as well, however, we receive tremendous amounts of backlash and complaints, unceasingly, for not displaying "More / All posts" made by any and every user of this site.
Basically, many here seem to demand a more Random, Irrelevant feed (at least the more vocal users).

This is non-ideal in our view, as it only perpetuates discontent by most users in the end, being often shown content that is non-interesting, non-relevant, and even offensive or inappropriate (from their perspective).

We suggest that you considering trying out the "Customize Feed" preset of "Most Relevant", to see if the feed's results and sorting become more preferable to you.
Otherwise, you can experiment with different Customize Feed settings, to tailor the content being delivered to your feed.
When I was on EP, I felt as though I was constantly surrounded by people who have had either interesting experiences or looking for similar experiences.

99% of what I have seen here makes me think that the users absolutely aren’t in a similar world to me. What on earth is going on? I’ve been blocking and muting way too much for my… what? Third day here?

😂

I was not on EP, but keep hearing about it. I’m 23 now so probably to young to have enjoyed it anyway. I wonder what caused it’s demise?

@Nelisme I was about 23 when I was on EP, not sure what type of user experience there would have been for teenagers at the time so I can’t say you “missed out” on anything, but not having had the experience over there, I hope you are finding good conversation and fun friends on here. If you find the right people you’d be surprised how solid a bunch of strangers online can be as a support group as you’re going through life.

@Nelisme this essentially brought it down

@Pretzel yooo!!! I didn’t even know this was the reason for it. I assumed it was because of how unregulated it was and all the people posting nudes and stuff that it became a privacy thing
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@DisappearingTide I think they received some subpoenas and were concerned with the privacy - and perhaps a civil lawsuit - but that's pure conjecture on my part.

I actually vaguely remember the post - she said "I'm serious about finding someone to kill me"

somebody took her up on it.

EP was going into a little bit of decline about that time - that sealed its fate.

We all jumped shipped when it closed to come here - the mix changed and a lot of the good folks left.

@DisappearingTide I opened my account here because I’m a stay at home mom and wanted someone to chat with that was mature. As much as I love my kids, I need interaction with adults some time. It’s been a mixed bag, but I have met some very nice people, and my experience is definitely on the plus side.
DisappearingTide · 31-35, M
@Nelisme well that’s good to hear. Gives me hope for here then
Nelisme · 22-25, F
@Pretzel Well, anything can be abused. Look at Facebook and Twitter. I guess if you have enough money, you don’t worry about the rest. It’s a shame I didn’t get a chance to experience it.
Nelisme · 22-25, F
@DisappearingTide once you have a private chat, I guess it doesn’t matter where it is. Hope you find what you’re looking for.
Nelisme · 22-25, F
@Pretzel wow, I had never heard all that. As gruesome as it sounds, I’m sure things like that go on, and probably human trafficking and drug stuff too. Oh well, maybe they are trying to build more safeguards into SW… who knows.
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@Nelisme it was a major shock to the system for sure. but I think the mods of this site used it as a learning experience.
DisappearingTide · 31-35, M
@Nelisme yea I suppose you’re right about that. Once you find someone who you’re comfortable with chatting with one on one then you get a tailor made experience which sorta is what it was all about.

@DisappearingTide I have found several people here that I really like. The problem is they move on after a while. I guess that’s mostly true in real life too. It’s still fun and I’ll keep on wasting time here :)
DisappearingTide · 31-35, M
@Nelisme that I think is something that happened a lot back then too, but they people who stayed became solid friends. Some people were just for a time, some people were just for play, and a couple stood the rest of time.
Nelisme · 22-25, F
@DisappearingTide Haven’t found that yet, but I’m looking :)
DisappearingTide · 31-35, M
@Nelisme you will
