I Don't Want Minors On Ep

Not solely in deference to the volume of decidedly adult oriented content and discussion that can be found on this site do I stand in agreement that Experience Project should restrict minors from access. That is certainly problematic in its own right and would seem to be an obvious liability to the producers of the site and the most glaring reason that such a prohibition should be in place here. This is not to say that the experiences of minors should be summarily invalidated. Quite the contrary, in fact. There simply needs to be a different site where those who are not 18 or above can share there thoughts, interests, and experiences in a family environment without the risk of coming across contend that was never meant for anyone so young.

Beyond that, I personally feel uncomfortable when I see a well expressed thought or question in a given category and discover that the member posting is a minor. As much of my own content is adult oriented I would be concerned that the poster might check into my profile thereby inadvertently making me the catalyst for exposure to inappropriate content. It does leave one feeling more than a little odd and even creepy to have such a population of members in the midst of adults of every level of open-mindedness toward the many desires and experiences expressed here. Whether an adult is offended or put off by someone’s content here or not, they are still adults among other adults. Minors have no more place among such content than among the patrons of a nightclub or bar.

Finally, on the subject of taking offense to the content that can be found here, all it takes is one alarmist parent and an overly-active news agency to vilify the Experience Project and cast aspersions on the site and its subscribers even if it were impossible for a minor to gain access to any of the mature material. That such content exists in lockstep with perfectly innocent, wholesome, and family-friendly content is enough to set some people down a path of righteous crusading against something that was not intrinsically an issue, just something with the potential to be thus. In this age of people spoiling for controversy it is best not to invite as much, even by accident.

I have recommended to EP a little while ago that they should start another similar site for those under 18, or even 21 for that matter. I've been here for almost three years now, and in the last year, this site has become inundated with young teenagers who don't understand the true meaning of the site. The original purpose of the site has been lost, which saddens me.
