I Want to Improve the Experience Project

The Latest New Profile Page

First of all, let me acknowledge some recent changes for the better. I see that group logos have been restored after a long absence on EP. That's heartening. I hope that it foreshadows the restoration of many other features whose loss we have lamented, including blogs.

I also see an option for leaving experience groups, which to the best of my knowledge was gone for a good while. If one clicks on the Groups tab and then hovers one's pointer on the right side of the Groups panel, one can see an "Leave Group" option.

We are told that EP had to change the profile page because its code was about to break. On our end we can't see the code, but we can see that with the results in the new profile page we are for the much greater part losers.

I have addressed the issue of the negative change regarding the whiteboard at <a href="http://www.experienceproject.com/stories/Want-To-Improve-The-Experience-Project/6974547" target="ep_blank">EP Link</a>

I am disturbed that the default view of a member's profile page no longer includes his featured story and a sampling of his other stories as well as a sampling of his Q&A action. Yes, Stories can still be accessed through a tab, but it was desirable to have several story blurbs visible on the profile page as previously. One of my old questions got a tremendous number of answers over time simply because it was readily visible on my profile page, but that can no longer happen. And the answers archive is altogether gone. I no longer have any means of searching through my answers beyond what is on Recent Activity. That's lamentable.

I passionately agree with others in this group in deploring the removal of the views counts for our stories. I feel likewise about the removal of the links for months, years, and topics on the Stories menu and its conversion to a mere Facebook-type timeline.

Recent Activity is changed for the worse because of the silly posting of the icon beside every activity and the making of each item wastefully large, which greatly limits the number of items visible on the page before one has to click "More". The same wastefully large format for the Questions menu likewise undesirably limits the number of items visible before clicking on "More".

Under the People tab, I don't understand what the icon to the left of the envelope icon is for. It would help if there was a text label when one puts the pointer there.

Since we are told the profile page change was an emergency measure, I hope EP will be flexible regarding it and will be looking to be changing it in the ways we members are requesting.
I would like to quote from a couple of other EP members. First, TheGreatLeveler from http://www.experienceproject.com/stories/Want-To-Improve-The-Experience-Project/6937848 on the latest profile page update :

"- The top friends feature is destroyed. You can see your own top friends in the side-bar, but not those on other profiles. Even if they decide to repair this, the first nine will never be featured on a profile again and the avatars are extremely small. When you visit someone else's profile his or her favorites are first shown, not his or her actual friends.
- You can't navigate stories anymore. There's no selecting a month or topic anymore. I have to scroll down hundreds of stories to get to the bottom, as if this is twitter. The featured story is no longer available on the profile page.
- They have finally destroyed the lay-out of the whiteboards as well. It's far to wide for small sections of text, gifts or gestures. It looks just as awfull as the 2014 version of the Q&A section.
- The text on the profile page is far too small, disorganized and the background theme seems to be increased with 500%. I'm not satisfied with the activity feed either."

Secondly, Carissimi from http://www.experienceproject.com/stories/Want-To-Improve-The-Experience-Project/6961293 on the general trend of the updates:

"If you can see the difference in the time frame you noted, then you would be shocked at the difference between 2011 (when I joined) and now. EP has made change after change since I joined, and not for the best. We had great features back then, and the homepage and profile pages were so much better. On the homepage we could see our circle's whiteboards and join in a conversation. We could send gifts and gestures that everyone could see. There was more interaction in every way, on posts, questions, confessions, dreams, blogs, whiteboards, chat, and messages, and of course the gifts and gestures. It was a great site. I've never seen another site like it...how it was then. A lot of good people have left."

Users are 100% responsible for content on this site. I once wrote hundreds of personal stories to share with my group of friends. Not any more. In the past couple of years I have posted a news article, but see no value in writing anything to contribute. It doesn't even get a title. It can't be read by anyone for very long. Waste of time. Most of my hundreds of contributions are just gone. Why would anyone bother contributing content to a site that doesn't appreciate those who produce content?

I agree. The website itself is pretty poor. it's the people and their stories that keep me coming back. I only tolerate the actual website. it does seem that when a change that is good finally occurs, there is always at least one good thing that disappears. That's no way to improve things.
As for the content I've posted. I've learned long ago to save anything I write of any consequence to a Word file that's stored on my computer. You never know when something will just "disappear" for no discernable reason.
It is true indeed that without us users, EP (and even K a n j o y a) has no product. Therefore they should appreciate us instead of taking us for granted.

Yes, we will be (and constantly are) tweaking the profile page to get it right. It's not until you put something live that you know what people truly want (because it's not always what they say they want), so please bare with us and remember that we are working on a lot of other things at the same time. I appreciate your suggestions, though.
Thank you, EPHeidi. Could you tell us what the icon to the left of the envelope icon under the People tab on the user profile page is for?
