I Want to Improve the Experience Project

The Hiding of Whiteboards: Is It Permanent?

First of all, let me express my gratitude toward EPHeidi and EPKimi for returning to interact with us in the I Want to Improve the Experience Project. The weeks of silence from EP Support were disheartening. To be listened to makes things feel better. Please continue to interact with us, and please understand that you should not take personally the distress we express over the changes on EP.

Perhaps the most distressing to me of the recent round of changes at EP is the hiding of whiteboards. Previously whiteboards were easily accessible and in plain sight on a user's profile page. Now they are not readily accessible and are hidden under the "More" tab.

Whiteboards have been a very important part of the interaction between friends on EP. This is witnessed by the fact that many people's whiteboards have gone on for hundreds of pages. They have been a convenient way just to give a simple greeting or convey information. Unlike private messages they have provided an option for conveying information that could have the advantage of being seen by people other than the recipient when the sender considered that to be desirable.

I really fear that the current hiding of whiteboards is a step toward their elimination. There is a parallel for that in the case of polls. Once upon a time EP had a wonderful macro-feature I called the experience group home page. (The experience group home page has unfortunately been gradually eliminated from EP.) One feature of the experience group home page was the ability to create polls that became a permanent fixture of the page and were seen by all who visited the page. Polls were a quite popular feature, and they could be found on the home pages of most popular experience groups. Then with one of EP's periodic downgrades (upgrades is not the accurate term), polls were removed from plain sight and hidden under a "More" tab on the experience group home page just like the whiteboard is now being hidden on the user profile page.

Once polls were thusly hidden, they atrophied. People no longer created new polls or participated in existing ones. It turned out that the hiding of polls under a "More" tab was simply a step toward their elimination. Their elimination was justified by the claim that polls were a little-used feature. They were scarcely used because EP's downgrade hid them.

I ask EP Support, is the current hiding of whiteboards a step toward their elimination? Please reassure us and promise us that this is not so. I urgently request that EP take whiteboards out from behind the "More" tab and put them back into plain sight.

Obviously they have a limited number of tabs, so they have to choose what goes up front and what goes under More. The real question is, is the Whiteboard any less important than the other tabs they featured? Personally, for example, I think Questions are not useful and could go under More.
.
The People tab in a profile is redundant because the Friends box to the right does pretty much the same thing.
.
And the Activity tab could also be hidden. People who know about it can use it, but it's not something you would use as frequently as the Whiteboard.

I agree with you, and would also like to see the White Boards back on the profile page. It's like they are dismantling EP, bit by bit over the years. They keep eliminating features, taking things away from us. What have they given us? I can't think of anything.

I can't get my board....or my stories...or my friends...

Its all gone horribly wrong...
