I Want to Improve the Experience Project

Appalled That EP Is Destroying Blogs

It's stunning. I'm almost at a loss for words. Blogs have been a very, very important part of the life of EP. Members have a lot of memories around blogs. Is it EP's calculation that the more serious folks on EP, the ones to whom blogs mattered more, have mostly already been driven off the website?

EP used to value writing. EP should be embarrassed not to have blogs! Just like it should be embarrassed not to have polls. What other websites add and promote, EP tosses overboard. EP should be embarrassed to be destroying the content of us members, who are totally responsible for making this website what it is.

Blogs did offer members the opportunity to express themselves with their nasty enemies kept away if they set it to Friends Only. It's a shame to lose that.

How does one open a csv file?

I don't believe I received an email notification of this!
It was only by sheer accident that I found out. I decided to check on the I Want to Improve the Experience Project group for the first time in a long time. I happened to see churinga's protest story in this group. It is abhorrent that there will be many people who will be taken by surprise by this aggression and will not have their stories saved.

EP, you ought to reverse this terrible idea. But if you don't, you should at least save all the members' blogs (with comments) so that they can receive them on request when they find out what happened.

For so long, the "development" of EP has only consisted of destroying features, (or changing features for the worse) by the hundreds, and never adding anything to the site. I thought that in mid-2014 you had finally concluded you had done enough destroying. But now you're back in the destroy mode with the same old excuses.

If you get rid of personal messages, so many people will leave this site in a hurry it will make your heads spin--and your revenues plummet.

I am also dismayed that EP Support seems now to respond only rarely to the stories in this group.

It's such an illogical decision to remove so much valuable and insightful content, dating back years to the very start of this site. I once wrote a story in this group suggesting the merging of confessions, blogs and experiences into one writing section, with adequate privacy settings. Obviously, the way they unrolled the changes in the confession- and blog sections recently wasn't what I had in mind. It's on such a short notice as well. That is if you happen to have come across the announcement on a random blog post. Many people, who don't sign in regularly or who have no idea of this measurement, will lose their entire blog. For some people that is like burning their own diary.
Yes, it is an outrage.

When I was on EP before I only blogged a few times but I also was shocked to see the notice a couple of days ago that this feature was being removed. I wouldn't have seen it if I hadn't clicked on a blog to read. I don't understand EP's management of the site anymore and am so disappointed in the way it's slowly being destroyed. One of the reasons I loved the site was for the value placed on writing now it doesn't seem as important. I understand that sometimes change is important but not when it destroys the original purpose of this site.
You can measure the value now placed on writing by the fact that they took away our right to have titles for our stories.
BarefootDreaming
This is true, I remember when they took that option away I was so upset! My titles were carefully chosen, a part of each story. Anyone who enjoys writing knows the value of a title.

EP will do what EP has decided to do. As a long time EP member I know the futility of attempting to protest. You are probably not aware that blogs crashed several weeks ago. No one was able to access blogs for two days. It was after the crash that EP decided (I am assuming for reasons of manpower, time, and money)....to discontinue our blogs. I mourn their loss with you. There are fewer and fewer reasons to visit EP.
I'm sure you would agree it's a flimsy excuse. Thanks for informing me of the crash. As for the crash--big deal!! That's life on the Internet. Stuff like that happens. It does not begin to justify this aggression against the membership.

Have you had a lot of friends leave EP or become de facto gone?
Rolle2323
My friends remain....but many of them have changed their names. I have approximately the same number of people in my friends circle....but I no longer know who is who....except for a treasured few.
I have noticed that on threads of stories and of the now-deceased blog posts, one sees a lot of comments where the author responds to a comment that's no longer there because the commenter is gone.

There used to be a lot of thriving "communities" on EP, circles of people who commented on each others' stories and loved and supported each other. It seems like EP's worsenings have practically wiped out those communities. There used to be real joy on EP,, but now the joy is gone from EP.

My theory is that EP employees must justify their existence by manufacturing changes for changes' sake. The whole reason I joined EP was to write a blog. What a shame EP wants to turf this out! EP has been the best social networking site because of the range of writing opportunities it gives. I am one who has a lot of blogs and not enough time to export each one over to Excel.
If you clicked on it, they should have exported all of them to Excel.

Yes, EP had a range of opportunities for writing. Now they've killed Confessions, Dreams, and Blogs. Only Stories and Q&A are left.

"My theory is that EP employees must justify their existence by manufacturing changes for changes' sake."
I have thought that a lot. But it's strange that all the changes are subtracting, never adding.

questions are next, then stories will follow shortly after. People will simply log on and stare at advertisements. It is a cost savings to reduce bandwidth consumption.
People will not log in to stare at advertisements. If EP keeps dismantling its website, experienceproject.com will become a "Domain for Sale."
How much cost savings do they get from killing these features? When will they ever understand they're killing the site itself? In 2014 I noticed a shockingly drastic decline in comments on my stories. That makes it hard to want to post new stories, when I feel no one is listening.

I think EP is being run by autobots or robobots or whatever they are called. I'm serious. There does not seem to be any human logical thought going on, for a long time now.
I know. They are alienating us members at every turn, and the site is in decline. Does anybody with long-term experience at EP not believe that 5 years from now experienceproject.com will not be a domain for sale?
Does anybody know if the files they let you export it to have the comments as well as the blog post itself?
It took me a lot of time, but I saved all the comments on my blog. I'm sorry if the ones on your blog are gone.
How does it make sense to export writing to a spreadsheet file format? That's crazy.
pinetreeguy
EP is slowly taking down every part of the site. Not much left.
Right.
WantonLass
Glad you mentioned it, I didn't realize. Just exported mine.
Can you tell me if the file has the comments as well as the blog posts?
aroserises
I missed the notice and lost six years of blogs.
BarefootDreaming
Oh no! I'm sorry that happened to you. I'm sure there were many others as well. :(
aroserises
Thanks for caring. I'm sure there are too.
