I remember my first IRC chatroom was #40plus. The room ( or channel, as they were called) was definitely not a sexual one, and the title referred to age, but invariably some young guy would wander in, assuming it referred to bra size!
Everyone was new at chatting back then. My first "nick" (nickname) was newguy.
After a couple of days I realized the folly in that choice, so I took a nick based on my actual first name, and then I had to explain to everyone who I was! But, as everyone was as new to this budding technology as I was, I found I was not alone in having done that!
