Just canting

Are you familiar with the word cant? Add an apostrophe and it changes the word to cannot. Interesting to me, that the word cant is a term for the speech unique to a group of people, like psychobabble, and so close to telling someone or yourself that they are incapable and/or undeserving. Makes me think of my time on here, and how people could talk about one right in front of them, and in life too I suppose, without that person being aware. I’m not a victim of bullying or cyberbullying or anything, not trying to whine and cry, but the first time I used this website it was very strange, and the more I think about it, the more I feel like I have to know. Just venting.

Haaa .... the apostrophe button is hard to find on my mobile phone, actually impossible without my glasses, so I often just omit it.

Cant also means 'to lean'. If something is canted it is not level or plumb.

@hippyjoe1955 this is also true.

I have learned a new word.

@Riemann As a noun it also means 'tilt', 'slope' (or something like that 🙂)

There's a hidden law of the universe that maintains a balance between missing apostrophes and apostrophes wrongly added.
