why do some people think because you don't answer someones rudeness online, you're being walked all over

i choose not to answer idiots online on the whole, i just block or ignore them, they don't know me, i have nothing to prove to them and don't have to justify myself, why would some dullard think if you don't answer a troll your being walked all over?

There is very little (if anything) to be gained by bickering and arguing with people (particularly in the public forum) online.
