I love that this place is anonymous. time to vent to strangers

Hi friends, its me again. Its been a while I think but I am back.

I fought my mom… Again. The first time it happened was 2022 in August, then in April 2023 this year, and now December.

Each time, the theme is the same. The way she speaks to me. I tell her she cant speak to me that way and it leads to a fight.

background info: I have a studio apartment alone in socal and im in grad school. My mom is single with my 11 year old brother living with her brothers (she absolutely hates it) as she can’t live on her own.

After these fights i’ve distanced myself significantly and she apologizes and we make a relationship work most because of my brother.

After my mom was kicked out of her home in April I decided that I wanted to create a better relationship with her so that I could ultimately be the guardian for my brother. Things have gone pretty well. Until this weekend

I think ive come to the conclusion she’s jealous of me as all three fights were correlated to something I was doing that she couldn’t yet do.

I am at a fucking loss. 1 think I need to manage is my drinking. I don’t drink often but I notice I get unintentionally drunk 😕

Where does the drinking come into it? Do you think that you make bad decisions when drunk or just that it's not so great for your health?

@SW-User in the 3 fights we had, one was sober, one I was buzzed, and this most recent one I was drunk. I dont make bad decisions when im drunk, I just dont like that I can’t remember everything

@Ohbabe That leads to the question, is it just coincidence that you've been drunk or buzzed on two of those occasions or is one of you more likely to pick a fight when you're drunk or buzzed? Or are you drunk/buzzed a lot so it was kind of inevitable? I'm just trying to get a feel for the background noise before looking at the arguments themselves.

@SW-User i’ve never fought in my life prior to the year 2022. I made a mistake on my years up there so i should fix it. Im not an aggressive person at all. I’ve gotten drunk way more than I can tell you. Im certain that being drunk is not the cause of me fighting

@Ohbabe Did the fights happen after you had already moved out on your own? What was your relationship like when you lived with her? My point being, do you think that you were less inclined to be treated unfairly once you became independent, because you didn't have to just accept it?

@SW-User Unfortunately I dont have the energy to respond to the questions completely. My mom was always abusive. They didn’t become “fights” until I moved out as id never hit her back when I lived with her. My posts include a lot about her though
