An interesting turn....
Ah, how the turn tables.
I used to love fictional TV shows and "reality" competition shows (mainly the cooking/fashion/art type ones), but lately I am drawn to TikTok/Reels/Shorter form content.
Originally I thought that was such a bad thing and that my brain was just distracted by "shiny fast" things. I thought it could ruin my attention span or brain overall. I guess it's impossible to know...since social media type stuff just started around the 2000's...like...2003...so....we are the guinea pigs....we don't know the long term effects yet....I mean, it could be making us smarter. Who knows!
Anyway...
I'm starting to realize.....TV shows and "reality" shows are just filled with so much FILLER. Even fictional TV shows have "filler episodes". They never admit to it but it's obvious. It is just SO MUCH talking and "reactions" from the judges or just needless nonsense.
Whereas the shorter form content packs it all in.
This might also come from possibly being ADHD or autistic or neurodivergent or those kinds of things that most parents ignored in the 80's and 90's and now the children they raised are adults. I have traits of all of those.
Point is....I also hate small talk....but now I am curious, does anyone ENJOY small talk? Like...anyone...anyone at all?
Is it even possible for small talk to be enjoyable?
What would be enjoyable about it?
I see the filler dialogue and episodes of TV shows as small talk. I usually just want to fast forward or get it over with. Because it means nothing.
Mainly reality shows I guess. Dang, I just used to really like my "reality" cooking shows (anything with Gordon Ramsay, also Top Chef) and fashion shows (Project Runway) but it's gotten so bad. I literally paused the last Masterchef episode to go on TikTok.
My FYP is curated though, it has long content and interesting subjects. Maybe most "doomscrolling" is TikTok dances and just brain rot stuff. But there are actually interesting subjects and science and creative things. It's just....the next evolution.
Sigh.
I just didn't want to be glued to my phone.
But, glued to TV, like they said back in the day, same difference.
Back to reading paper books!
