Seeking Attention

I have to confess that one of the primary reasons why I'm even on this site is the attention I receive from just being here and uploading images and discussing certain issues. I don't know why, but I seem to crave it. I don't think that I'm a narcissist, but I seem to have such tendencies to a certain, limited degree, and I've also noticed that it tends to feed on itself; that is, the more I do it, the more I need it.
As I understand it, the research that has been conducted about social media has found that the companies involved have deliberately designed their "products" to be as addictive as possible, employing the knowledge gained in psychology over many decades to "tweak" the system so that people end up wasting as much time on it as possible, with the result being that now millions of people are just wasting their precious time on something that is just making their lives worse.
The recent move by the government of Australia to ban social media for those under the age of sixteen, is, in my view, doomed to fail. It can't possibly work, and it's already failing, because the legislation involved was written by a bunch of old boomers who probably don't even know the difference between a laptop and a microwave oven, and they're up against tech-savvy teens and pre-teens who grew up with smartphones, computers, social media and all that.
In spite of all of this, I remain optimistic. People are finally starting to wake up and realise they've been swindled, and with the AI bots rapidly multiplying all over the internet, it's just a matter of time before they've infected every site on the planet, and people just won't bother with it anymore. They'll realise that reality cannot be replaced by something so fake, and the internet will be left to the bots.

I do share your views about the interest and AI bots people will stop trusting what they see and hear and crave the more authentic experience of the real world
