The domain and the software, search engine, email and Usenet server, was bought out by Google back in the late 1990s.

Google administered a very limited version of the Usenet server until two years ago. And simply keep what was left as a historical archive. Posting anything, even text, is no longer available.

Yet since I am a historical relic, they actually archived some of my own posts. 🤣

See my about me for the links.

The email portion of dejanews was simply merged into Hotmail.com, which even then, belonged to Google. Yet even that was merged into Gmail.

If your browser still allows you to use the unsecured http link above, you will see the URL reroutes to a Google 404 file not found webpage. That looks like this.

The above message is bunk! They know they bought the domain decades ago. They just don't want anyone to remember their dejanews origins.

This is what a normal domain not found looks like. 404 error messages are strictly reserved for files on servers that already have domain names.

Besides EP, Last.Fm. Although it still exists, but the forums and interaction/posting part of it is gone.
