When you sign up with your email is it made public, so anyone can see it, and contact you? Never mind. It’s moot now.

I use aliases with gmail. It's nice because I can have a separate address for each site but they sll funnel into my main inbox without exposing my main address. It also lets me know when a site is sharing my address.
