Why is social interaction so hard?

Admittedly I'm not great in keeping conversations going, but lately I've really invested in taking initiative. This led to a few really nice chats, but only for people to then stop logging in for days, leaving me on read repeatedly or only giving one short answer a day after the initial seemingly great connection.

I'm getting real tired of getting my hopes up for one afternoon ora few days, only to return to loneliness afterwards. It's almost worse than not finding a connection with anyone in the first place. 😕
