Those, especially teenagers, who follow such trends probably think themselves brave, immortal and immune from harm; but peer-pressure is a major driver in trends of any sort.
They are not "dumb", or rather they are not unintelligent; but they are not very good at thinking of hazards, risks and consequences when seeing something that might look like daring fun.
Will TikTok do anything about it? I doubt it. The people who run sites like that do not care. It's time they were brought to account and made responsible as the publishers they pretend not to be.

You may know of the Inquest into the suicide of a teenaged English girl. It revealed she had become practically addicted to on-line fora about harming oneself, even suicide. Called as a witness, a senior manager in the UK of one site responsible for hosting these fora - I think it was TickTock - tried to claim these are serious self-help discussions. Another witness though, said most of the posts were appalling, no help at all; and gave him sleepless nights for about three weeks - and he is a professional child-psychologist who has presumably seen and hear a lot of distressing cases in his work.
