what's the thinking behind that rule about touchdowns in overtime ?
Sharon1 · 31-35, F
@ButterRobot it’s a horrible overtime system. They should go to the college system or just play an entire 10 minute or 12 minute quarter.
ButterRobot · 51-55, M
@Sharon1 is there some logic behind it ? Non-American here.
Sharon1 · 31-35, F
@ButterRobot it’s just a modified sudden death system. So if the first team who has possession in OT scores a TD then they win. If the score a field goal, other team gets a shot. If they also score a field goal, the it goes to sudden death.

It’s a horrible system. I’m sure there is a reason, but not a good one. It just sucks.

@Sharon1 it does seem overly dependent on a coin toss.

@Sharon1 The sudden death rule is for TV. The dont want to run over into their other programming. They modified overtime a little but the winner of the coin toss in over time usually wins the game.
